Family Day will be celebrated in Ontario on Monday, February 20th. All schools will be closed. This holiday celebrates the importance of families and family life to people and their communities. We hope all members of our Osler family can spend meaningful time together.

Electives

Tomorrow we are participating in electives. Students will be involved in a variety of activities, selected to give them exposure to things which are not normally available at school. Activities this year include circus arts, pottery, bowling, karate, rock climbing, music, computers, Scientists in Schools, dance, and outdoor programs at Scanlon Creek Conservation Centre.

Dairy Education Continued

Yesterday Charlotte Lange came to Osler and spent the day telling us many things about dairy farming. She is a very busy lady. Before arriving, she got her family ready for the day, her kids off to school, and milked her herd. As soon as she left, she was headed straight for the barn to milk the cows again. Mrs. Lange had many interactive Smartboard activities to augment her presentations. We look forward to having her return to Osler.

Dairy Education

On Wednesday, February 15th, Charlotte Lange, the Simcoe County Dairy Educator, will be making a series of presentations to students from SK to grade 5. Although we live in a rural area, there is a lot to be learned about agriculture and food production. Mrs. Lange and her family operate a dairy farm near Thornton. We look forward to hosting her, and learning more about this important industry.

Custodian Appreciation Week

Next week has been designated as Custodian Appreciation Week. We are very fortunate to have two wonderful custodians at Osler. Mr. Belgue and Mr. Mason work very hard to not only keep our school clean, but throughout the day, Mr. Belgue is often assisting children and staff with a variety of things to help make the day run smoothly. On Wednesday, February 15th, everyone is encouraged to wear a grey T-shirt to show their support for our custodians.

Food Bank Donation

Today students and staff wore a variety of crazy hats as one of our many spirit days organized by the Student Leadership Team. While everyone had a lot of fun, the primary objective was to collect canned goods for the Bradford Food Bank. Although we are a very small school, we were able to bring in over 500 items! Congratulations to everyone who participated. The caring spirit at Osler continues to thrive!

Parent Help - Keeping up to date

We understand expectations, methods, and practices have changed since parents went to school. A new link has been added under Parent Corner to provide some ideas which may assist you as you support your child. Canadian teacher, turned American tutor, Laurie Laurendeau, found herself being asked by parents about various ways in which they can help their children at home with math concepts, so she started a blog to address many of these questions. Laurie targets parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 3, and writes a new blog each week. She covers all the strands of Math. Although written to coincide with American curricula, her suggestions may be applied universally.
